Getting over main work-flow bias
What’s the aim?
We will witness firsthand how various approaches to planning and organizing product delivery function. One of the outcomes of the workshop is that participants will gain a clear understanding of whether solutions and options that seem intuitively logical are also the most effective in practice. For example if maximal utilization of the resource is really always efficient?
What will we do?
We will build ships, all together. That will be fun! Afterwards, we’ll engage in longer discussions (not just my talk, but real discussions) about our experiences and project them onto our daily work. We’ll clearly see that “hard” is not always synonymous with “effective.”
It’s an onsite workshop, but I have experience facilitating it in hybrid mode, so part of the participants can be online. Still, we will need around 10 people onsite.
Why with Ruslan?
That’s a classical workshop, so it’s not invented by me, and there are other coaches around who surely know the principle of the workshop. My advantage is having experience facilitating the workshop with around 20 diverse teams and units, including many cross-functional development teams from different areas, IT operations units (including tech support), business, and other non-IT people (for example, HR) and top management. Every team has its own problems and focuses, so the discussions and takeaways are subtly different. The content of the workshop has evolved over those years and is now much more specific than the original workshop, providing more parallels to everyday challenges and offering more practical insights.
Now, in a little more detail… This is a fun workshop in an informal atmosphere. We will modify a line of work for 8-10 people sitting next to each other behind the table. Together, we’ll try to build some ships. While we need to put in our best efforts, it will still be enjoyable, with plenty of opportunities to share jokes with your colleagues.
Throughout the workshop, we’ll explore different approaches and encounter some interesting numerical insights. We’ll delve into the reasons behind those numbers – and we’ll do it together with participants. It’s not a regular coaching session where one person speaks about “the truth.” Instead, we’ll take the opposite approach – creating a space for participants to discover things they may have heard before but never trusted.
